Parent teacher communication

Communication between home and school is vital. Establishing clear communication procedures assist to create productive working partnerships in the best interests of each child. Parents, as advocates for their children, are encouraged to make contact with the school regarding any matter which could impact on school life, no matter how small the concern. What may be a small matter in an adult’s mind can be quite different to that of a child. Identified early, these matters can be managed productively in a respectful and supportive manner for all participants, leading to a successful outcome. We aim to ‘know your child and their learning’ and with a positive and open relationship developed between home and school, we can, together make a difference!

Communication to families

Our school e-newsletter, which is emailed home each Thursday, is our main form of communication. Please make sure we have a current email address so that you receive the newsletter. Please contact the office to change your contact details.

A hard copy of the school newsletter can be issued if parents do not have access to the internet, with additional copies provided on the news stand in the school foyer.

Class notes may be sent home by teachers to inform or gain permission regarding special events or to keep parents informed about class programs.

Assemblies are held every Friday morning in our school hall. This is an opportunity for parents to meet with other families, through our P&C tea and coffee welcome conducted each week, as well as supporting the celebration of achievements of our students. A regular feature is the sharing of learning through a class presentation.

Communicating with teachers

Parents are welcome to meet with teachers at any time of the year to discuss their child’s progress. Please either contact the teacher or contact the office to arrange a mutually convenient time to meet. Unscheduled meetings before school can be difficult for teachers as they are preparing for the day’s learning ahead and they may not be able to give their full attention at that time. Should a more urgent matter arise, please notify the office.

All teachers have an Education Queensland email address. Often sending an email can be an effective form of communication if parents are unable to come to school to meet with teachers. Please see your class teacher or contact the office to receive teachers’ email addresses.

If parents have any questions or concerns or they would like to raise an issue, we encourage you to discuss these with your child’s teacher, as the first point of contact. If the matter cannot be resolved, parents should make a time to meet with the teacher and the principal together to work on a successful outcome.

Reporting

Early in term 1, each class will conduct a parent information evening to advise you of the learning, and class expectations and routines for the year. This is a general introduction for all parents.

Formal face to face parent teacher interviews are held in term 1 and term 3.

Report cards are issued at the end of term 2 and term 4. Parents and/or teachers may request an interview following the release of report cards.

Your participation is encouraged and attendance appreciated by our school staff, as we work together to maximise your child’s whole school experiences and achievements.
